| The picture above refers to the "Enchanted Village" at Bellefontaine (between Mortain and Villedieu-les-Poêles), which offers a fountain garden, enchanted cascades, magic castles, a fairy valley, a theatre of automatons and a series of rural attractions.
Other interesting attractions are the "Minature Village" and mini-train at St.Martin d'Aubigny (near Périers), two "magic labyrinthes" made of ripening maize plants (corn-on-the-cob) at Antrain and Lanvallay (near Dinan), a museum of cider-making at Barenton (near Domfront) and a museum of beautiful Normandy furniture at
Ducey.
Those interested in the WW2 "Battle of Normandy" can visit the museum at Avranches, the American Cemetery at St.James and/or the famous Hill 314 at Mortain. The museum does not compare well with that at Caen, being mostly displays of uniforms and equipment, but there is an excellent film (in French) covering the whole of the two-month battle in considerable detail. Many of the towns in the area were seriously damaged during 1944 - look out for long lists of civilian casualties on the war memorials and post-war buildings that look much older until inspected closely.
