| Many of the larger towns in the area provide excellent "Jardins de Plantes", for example at Avranches, Coutances, Fougères and Rennes. The public gardens at Avranches are particularly splendid with magnificent formal beds in interesting shapes and vivid colours and a superb view over the bay to Mont St.Michel itself.
Perhaps the best of the private gardens in the area is the "Parc Floral de Haute Bretagne", with its summer festivals of rhododendrons, roses and hortensias. It is situated at Le Châtellier (between St.James and Fougères). There are also excellent gardens to view at the Château de La Ballue (Bazouges-la-Pérouse, between Antrain and Combourg), La Pellerine (between Fougères and Ernée), Colombiers du Plessis (near Gorron) and the Chateau de Montmarin (Pleurtuit, near Dinard). The zoos at Champrépus (Villedieu-les-Poêles), La Bourbansais (Pleugueneuc, near St.Malo) and St.Symphorium-les-Monts (near St.Hilaire du Harcouët) also offer attractive gardens.
