| Bagnoles with the adjacent Tessé-la-Madelaine is the largest spa in western France.
After the miraculous cure of Hugo de Tessé's horse as a result of bathing in the spring, Bagnoles de l'Orne quickly became an important spa. The original establishment consisted of three pools protected by wooden boards in which the water passed successively over the men, then the women, then finally the poor (all in danger from the wolves and robbers in the forest). Facilties are now rather better and many visit the 25ºC spring to take the waters principally for circulatory and glandular disorders.
The picture shows the white walls of the Casino attractively reflected in the lake. |
