| Cancale is a delightfully picturesque fishing port and tourist resort to the east of St.Malo in the north-western corner of the Bay of Mont St.Michel. The port has been famous for centuries for its oysters which flourish in the beds around the bay. Excellent oysters can be eaten in the restaurants and bars around the town. As many as 48 million oysters were sold in one record season during the 19th. century!
Just to the north of Cancale is Grouin Point, easily accessible with a large carpark and facilities. It offers a splendid coastal panorama plus a nearby offshore island which is a major sanctuary for sea-birds, despite being just 200 metres from the
carpark. |
