| The Chausey Islands are a small archipelago of granite islands, which may be reached by day excursion from Granville. The islands produce a famous hard-wearing granite used for many buildings in France and the Channel Islands, including Mont St.Michel. Nowadays the islands are a haven for visitors and yachts, offering delightful walks amongst spectacular coastal scenery. The tidal variation is an astonishing 46 feet, revealing submerged ice-age forests at low tide. These contribute to the legend that the islands formed part of the Scissy Forest which was inundated by the sea in about 700AD. |
