Domfront
Orne, Normandy

Flag of France
Domfront lies in the SW corner of the Orne Department near to the Mayenne and Manche borders.
Domfront
Domfront lies spread along a rocky ridge 200 feet above the gorge of the Varenne river. The town commands a panorama of the Passais "bocage" country, the pear-growing capital of the world. The small town has a well-restored town centre. The look-out point near the ruined castle provides a good view of the Varenne gorge and an extraordinary cliffside-hugging gîte whose door is in the roof!

Nine miles south of Domfront is the beautiful village of St.Fraimbault, which is brightly decorated with flowers during the warmer months. St.Fraimbault has won the prize for the outstanding "village fleurie" in France many times in recent years.

Another attraction near to Domfront is the extraordinary set of chapels of "Notre Dame de l'Oratoire" just outside the village of Passais-la-Conception. These beautifully decorated buildings are sometimes the centres of pilgrimage for thousands of people.
