Suisse Normande
Calvados/Orne, Normandy

Flag of France
The Suisse-Normande follows the upper part of the River Orne.
Suisse-Normande The Suisse-Normande denotes an area in Normandy which has neither mountains nor lakes in the Swiss sense, but is nevertheless an attractive tourist area of spectacular scenery formed by the river Orne cutting through ancient hard rocks. The course of the winding river, bounded by steep wooded banks and rock escarpments attracts those who like walking, canoeing, fishing, hang-gliding and horse-riding.

Popular localities are Clécy (picture), Pont d'Ouilly, the Rabondages Lake and the Oëtre Rock (which has a spectacular viewing table). St.Roch's Chapel near Pont d'Ouilly is the scene of a "pardon" (pilgrimage) held every summer in full local Norman costume.
